Mac os mavericks update won't work

Everytime I try and update my software it says that "the Mac OS X Mavericks" can't be saved, and 'connection reset by peer'. I have no idea what any of this means and would really appreciate some help on updating my software as many apps that I would like to download need the latest Mac OS X Mavericks. I have a MacBook Air that I purchased in early 2013, so I dont think that my computer model is too old.

"Connection reset by peer" usually means your internet connection reset itself.

Also, do you have sufficient free disk space to save the upgrade?
