'show path bar' grayed out in finder view menu

I found the below discussion, but it does not work on a Macbook Pro using version 10.9.2

When I press on Command F, the find window appears as normal, and is thus 'open', but the

'show path bar' in the finder view menu remains grey...very frustrating

Any ideas anyone?

Many items are greyed out in the finder's "view" menu, including 'show path bar' and 'hide status bar'

The only items not greyed out are: clean up, arrange by, and show view options.

How can I get them back?

Hello William,

I know this reply is a little late. I just want to comment for future reference. The situation you describe is perfectly normal. I assume you had no Finder window open when you accessed the view menu, right? You'll notice that almost all options become active when you have a Finder window open. The "show/hide statusbar" option is relevant (and active) only when you switch to a minimalist Finder view (either by clicking the white oval button at the upper right corner of a Finder window or by pressing cmd-alt-t). So you see, there's nothing to worry about. 🙂
