Q: My battery is horrible

This morning I forgot to bring my charger with me to work. I need it to charge my mac. When I went there I had 100% on my mac. Then seriously 1 minute later I had 28 percent. It goes down so fast. I am using my iPad Air right now to start this. Now my laptop is dead. How do I fix my battery.  My MacBook Air battery literally only lasts 2 minutes and it dies from 100 percent. I constantly have to keep charging it because it dies in 2 minutes. I think Apple advertised the 2011 11.6" model to be 5 hours but mine is only 2 minutes.

    It sounds as if you need a new battery : use the Power section of System Information (/Applications/Utilities) to see how many cycles it has, and what the condition is reported as.

    Your Air is 3 years old.....

     

     

    NOW, the real question is.........

     

          

     

    1. did you often drain the battery very low?

     

    2. did you often /always have your macbook on charge,......or did you often / always BOTH have your macbook on charge AND in sleep mode?

     

    3. did you often /always play realistic heavy graphics games ON battery on your notebook?

     

     

    1 or 2 and 3 are harsh on the battery chemistry and therefore its longevity

     

    all batteries are consumables meant to replaced either in their own "due time" or early due to abuse / misuse.

    1. No I don't often drain the battery down. I rarely ever did that.

     

    2.  Yes I did often have my battery on charge. No when my Mac is in sleep mode then it is only charging if it needs to be charged but if it is fully charged already then I don't charge it.

     

    3. No I never do that on battery. In fact I rarely even do that when its charging.

    That looks ok, of course; but nonetheless you're having problems. Reset the SMC & if it persists, take it to Apple.
