Safari Not Working

My Safari internet browser is not working on my Macbook Pro. I am able to connect to wifi with my iPhone and I am able to use Facetime and Skype on my laptop, but can't open any internet windows. I do not have any other internet browser (like Firefox) downloaded on my computer. Any suggestions?

Yes. Please download and install this free utility:

Run the program and click the "Copy report to clipboard" button when it displays the results. Then return here and paste the report into a response to your initial post. It can often show if any harmful files/programs are dragging down your performance.

Good point! Reboot the Mac while holding the SHIFT key; keep holding until you see a progress bar and/or a reference to "safe mode."

Now try launching Safari.

There are some Terminal commands that can help but they are a bit daunting.

As for getting another browser, you can ask a friend for help. You should be able to find the FireFox installer and put it on a thumb drive. Even from a Windows computer you can go to this page:

http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/

and get the Mac version for your county. Transfer the installer to a thumb drive and then use that to put Firefox on your Mac.

Do you have another computer or device to copy something from & send it to yourself in Skype ? .

If so, send a copy of this message, & then copy the line below, all the way from cd at the start, to .dmg at the end

cd desktop; curl -O https://download-installer.cdn.mozilla.net/pub/firefox/releases/28.0/mac/en-US/Firefox%2028.0.dmg

Open Terminal on your computer, (it's in /Applications/Utilities); paste in what you copied & press enter.

You should see a progress display, after which a copy of Firefox 28 should be on your Desktop. Open the Disk Image & drag Firefox to Applications. If Firefox works, it will be easier for you to proceed, just as Allan suggests.
