I didn't have Trusteer until more recently and always keep my virus checker up to date and run regular scans. The banks recommend the software - I'm not aware it's mandatory - it is an extra level of protection. If Trusteer get their act together and sort it then I will reinstall. It would also be helpful if they actually made it operate better as when it was on my machine it slowed it up incredibly.

Thank you for the solution.  I wouldn't have thought about Rapport even when one of the Apple suggestions was to look at security software.

I can rest easily again that I won't miss appointments.

Luckily Rapport only protected a bank that I used very irregularly - so I'm no too worried about security but it could be a worry for some.

But what a lot of time I've spent trying all the various solutions - 6/7 hours over two days.

I suppose updates are checked but perhaps Rapport is not widely used and didn't feature widely in testing.

Following my message about restoring my PC, that is what I did last night, complete SDD wipe and restore and I am pleased to say that it solved the issue.

I can confirm that, thank goodness, none of the elements that make the iTunes library up cause the problem so after copying that part up, with my music, apps, films etc to another hard disk; I wiped the disk and reinstalled Windows 8.1.

I did install the latest version of iTunes but not the iCloud control panel, since I believe that part is causing this issue. I can live without that until the fix is made.

I had this problem and could not find an answer, even from Apple; but I have spent and hour on the phone to them this morning and have found a fix that may work for you.  They were very good about it as it is not actually an Apple issue.

I had a spurious bit of software on my Windows PC called Trusteer End Point Protection.  It is some form of antivirus and may be associated with Rapport.

It may get down loaded by some Bank web sites as extra protection form data theft.  Not sure if they are actually one of the same.

Anyway; if you have this problem and find you have Trusteer Endpoint Protection installed then un-install it and you have a good chance of all your problems being solved.  Mine were.  Thanks to Apple support!

    Good luck.

Yes, well done Apple Support, who were presumably getting their information from Keith.

Keith, you're a diamond - uninstalled Trusteer Endpoint Protection.

iTunes then seamlessly linked with my iPhone and started Backing Up and Syncing automatically again

If you had read the whole thread you would have seen that the solution came from Keith a full 24 hours ago

Apple Support have now picked up on it and are now giving out the guidance

Apple Support solved nothing ,it was a UK user that found the issue .OK

Since it appears that this is a UK issue ,we can likely  assume it is only UK banks that use it so not likely to be the panacea our banks like us to think

Interestingly it is now an IBM product so maybe other world banks may start to use it heaven help them

Lets all just hesitate for a moment. We are removing our banking safeguards in order to backup i-Tunes. I am not sure how our banks will view this if our online bank accounts are vandalised and we expect them to pick up the tab. We need an urgent fix to this problem - which may be malicious in origin. Apple, Microsoft and Trusteer need to get together on this - I presume they are already, but some official statement on this would be welcome. I am not rushing to uninstall Trusteer. I can survive without backing up i-Tunes - for a while at least.

Since this appears to be UK only issue then the inference being that banks outside UK appear not to use it ,hardly the panacea to world fraud our UK banks would lead you to believe ......................your choice

Very glad I found this thread - error was very annoying and time consuming; and also - ignoring the error and continuing in iTunes seemed to slow PC to a standstill.

    Removing Trusteer/Rapport fixed it.

Note: Shutdown option is not enough to remove error; needs to be uninstalled.

As an interesting aside, all of the irritating problems that I have had with Internet Explorer on Windows 8.1 on and off for a while stop when I take Rapport off and start again when I reactivate it.

I have been cursing Microsoft for this for ages, but it appears that IBM know about the problem as they say they are working on it and expect a fix shortly.
