Need help: Quicktime crashes and I get this error message whenever I try to use it: "Error -1856: an unknown error occurred"

I've searched the forums but haven't been able to find an answer. I can't open .mov files or convert files to QT format...
I use Windows 7
Quicktime version 7.7.5
