Problem copying iPhoto library to external hard drive

I frequently copy my entire iPhoto library to EHD by clicking the library in Finder and dragging to the EHD. However, this time I'm having a problem. I get the message "preparing to copy to Samsung" with a blud and white activity bar. This never goes away so I'm presuming the action has hung? Any ideas please? My storage on the MacBook Air is almost full (hence moving photos).

Thanks

Hi Terence

Thank you for getting back to me.

I have 20gb free from 120gb storage. Not sure of "what format is it?"

When I look at my files in FINDER I see a lot of jpeg files which are photos that I moved to my external hard drive long ago. Can I delete these?

My knoweldge of the workings of the computer are not that great Im afraid !

Thanks again

Depends - where exactly are these JPEGs? Do you want them anymore?

Hi Larry HN

OS version 10.8.2

iphoto version 9.5.1

The exact error message is: "out of Application memory" after it failed to transfer my iphoto library accross to external hard drive.

IN FINDER:

the jpeg files are under ALL MY FILES when I scan down to IMAGES. There are hundreds of them. When I open one it it a photo that I transfered to external drive a long time ago and it is no longer in my iphoto library on the Mac

User uploaded file This is as far as I get trying to drag and drop my iphoto library to external hard drive, it then comes up with the "out of application memory" message

(I have 18GB free out of 121GB on the flash storage and I ahve 4GB of memory installed)

Thanks

Denise
