Cannot get Air Play to work--tried everything :(

I have three, relatively new mac products--iphone 5s, iPad, and late 2012 macbook pro. I cannot get the airplay icon to show up on the phone or iPad. I have tried two different wi-fi networks, removed firewall on MB and router at home. Even when I am certain they are all on the same network, the Air Play icon will not show on my phone or ipad. I am trying to send my screen to my MB so I can record myself using apps. I have been trying for three days to get this to work. I have the Reflector App installed.

I am a teacher and need to record myself using apps for curricium I am writing.

So to recap:

Reflector App installed

same network

firewalls off

new gear with Airplay capability

tried another wifi network

all systems up to date

Tried to work with Reflector support, but that hasn't helped

I don't know what to do now. Advice would be greatly appreciated.
