I have an airport express that is several years old. When I connect it for use, I get the following message: "This version of AirPort Utility doesn’t support this base station. " Is this express now useless?

The Mavericks operating system does not support the older AirPorts.
You can use....or maybe borrow for a few minutes....a Mac running Leopard, Snow Leopard, or a PC to be able to administer the older (8+ years) AirPort that you have.
Most of these devices did not get much past 5 years of age, so at this point, you are way ahead of the game.

Thanks for your reply. Bummer that older airports are not supported by Maverick OS. However, if indeed the expected useable life of express is 5 yrs, I guess my disappointment is mute.
