How do I install "unapproved" apps

System Preferences - Secuity and I think it's the general tab. Look for your choices.

If you only need to authorize a few programs you can do it easily on a case-by-case basis rather then turning off security entirely.

The first time you go to run a program that is not signed you can right click the application and choose open you wil get a window asking if you really want to open it. Say yes.

From then on it will open normally and your security settings are left untouched.

Either select the Anywhere radio button or click on Open Anyway button in the System/General/Security & Privacy pane:

Just click the program you get

Select open and the program will open normally from ths point on.

No need to mess with your security settings opening your system up to running unauthorized programs.
