i-tunes quit playing the internet radio stations about 2 weeks ago, says to check my internet connection which is fine.
I have itunes 10.6.3 and an operating OSX 10.5.8, wonder if I have to upgrade, one screen says no and another one says yes.

You could try to download iTunes again, but you will not get the latest version. The latest version of iTunes, 11.1.5 for Mac, requires the operating system to be 10.6.8 or later.

Thanks, found out from Apple I have to upgrade my operating system to 10.6.8 to upgrade to the latest itunes so the radio tuner will load stations, disc is in the mail. As a consumer I hate this, as a business major I think it is a stroke of genius....

Thanks for your reply. Yes, once you get 10.6.8 installed you will no longer need discs to install any new Apple software on your Mac. You can actually jump straight from the 10.6.8 to 10.9 operating system, but you might want to wait a few weeks before doing this. Before you update to Mavericks, make sure any third party apps that you rely on are compatible, and be sure to make a complete backup of your computer.

Still, keep your new 10.6 disc. If your hard drive fries and your backup doesn't work for some reason you will have to reinstall from scratch and you'll need the 10.6 installer disc because your computer likely won't internet boot to Mavericks the way modern computers will.
By the way, marketing idea works both ways. Several years ago radio stopped working with my iTunes version, and so did Apple Store. So, I disabled radio completely on iTunes and work directly with URLs in VLC and use browser streams. I guess for the radio stream service it probably doesn't matter to Apple since I don't think they make any money from providing a list of streaming servers (the real cash cow for "free" iTunes is the media store). As for iTunes Store I can't get access to it with the result Apple makes no media sales to me.
