What updates are you trying to download? Have you tried googling the download links directly?
Just lookup
support.apple.com DL and the name of the update.

Thank you for your assistance. I finally managed to hack this. I had to download the updates one by one, what a chore that was and then further 8 updates came along and these were done all at once wow I feel good.
