There seems to be a problem at Apple's end of the line. As you can tell there are already a large number p ousts about FaceTime problems. Here's a link to Apple's system status. It might not do any good though as it doesn't indicate any problems. But as we know, there are. In any case the problem isn't in your iOS device.
i'm also having same problem with facetime. connection failed right away. iPad2, iOS 5.1. this problem started on Apr 16, 2014. it was doing fine on Apr 15.
For what it's worth the correct link to Apple's system status is here http://www.apple.com/support/systemstatus/
but I don't believe it for a moment.
I'm using iOS 6.1.2 on my iPad 2 and I can't make or recieve facetime calls. I get the same issue as the original poster. The person I'm calling is using an iPad 2 with iOS 7 and they have the same issue. Both were working fine last weekend.
Apple recommends to upgrade to iOS 7.1. Some people claim that if both have 7.1 facetime will work. the last time I tried to upgrade, I got wifi issues etc. spent countless hours with support and the geeks. I hope the will acknowledge that there is an issue with Facetime. I dont like iOS 7.
Well I'm here to own up. My dad was over today and he has an iPad 2 with iOS 7.1.1 and mine ran 6.1.2. Over the table both on my wifi I tried to call him on facetime and he tried to call me, in both cases it failed due to lost connection as previously discussed. He said they had used it to call my brother in england yesterday with no issue.
I bit the bullet and decided with extreme reluctance to do the upgrade. I did a full backup whilst downloading the update on my windows pc and after the sync I applied the update. Luckily for apple's sake the facetime connection now works both ways but I'm still left with this hideously atrocious UI color scheme. I can however report that i can see no noticable reduction in performance so far. As per suggested on some sites I disabled automatic downloads & updates and tweaked the accessibility settings to "reduce motion" and "increase contrast" including enabling button shapes and reducing white point. Everything seems to work fine and Thankfully I don'rt feel like I have a hobbled device. Clearly something between 7.0 and 7.1.1 has brought iPad 2 back up to speed so to speak.
Oh and I still hate you Apple, cheers.
Apple posted this yesterday in regards to the recent facetime outage
The thing that really bites is that they are not even denying that it was intentional all along.
IS updating to late set iOS the only solution ? If I put my stuff on iOS 8 ......I may as well use them for paper weights. seriously is the iPad 2 or iPhone 4 obsolete
now ? Planned obsolescence ...... Or my certificate is now not valid ? Or you cannot back up to an older iOS .....apple no longer authenticates or whatever ?
so did you ever get your stuff working again ?
