I replaced the battery a few months ago after receiving the warning 'replace battery soon' and it's been doing this ever since.
PLEASE HELP! it's beyond annoying. It must be a problem with the computer as the battery is brand new and it was doing the same thing before i replaced the battery.

IF so, thats the issue.
the thing is it was doing the exact same thing before i replaced the battery - just mysteriously dying with no warning - so i assume that the problem is not the new battery..

Yes i did. But as i have explained twice now the same problem was happening before i repaced the battery so i assume it is not a problem with the actual battery.

Bingo. That had to be the case.
Since the Ebay batteries have a rabid nasty 'ability' not to work.....
then the prior battery, was it a genuine Apple battery ? (which is more than just a battery, it also contains a microchip for communication the Ebay batteries do not have).
On the PRIOR battery (not this one since its an Ebay battery and theyre known to be worthless).....did you:
1. did you often drain the battery very low?
2. did you often /always have your macbook on charge,......or did you often / always BOTH have your macbook on charge AND in sleep mode?
3. did you often /always play realistic heavy graphics games ON battery on your notebook?
1 or 2 and 3 are harsh on the battery chemistry and therefore its longevity
all batteries are consumables meant to replaced either in their own "due time" or early due to abuse / misuse.
Battery purchased from ebay is not secure and sometimes it is not original. It may not be the new battery. Well assume your battery is not an issue, try to reset SMC to see if it is the system management controller issue.

Otw, you need to bring your mac to Apple Store to run a battery diagnostic to verify your issue.
