Q: I had to take in my iphone 5 due to charging and freezing issues.

You could try hard resetting the iphone (power and home button together unitl the apple logo appears) and reset you computer too then try again here is the step by step for back up restores:

If all this still fails and your using a laptop or notebook you can take it in with you to the apple store and they can recover the phone for you
