We would like to continue to use our powermac G5 2004 A1047 but can't seem to find anti-virus software that will enable us to connect safely to the net. Any recommendations?

Virus is not an issue with PowerPC Macs, they are too obsolete for anything to exist that could "infect" them.
It has been a few years since any new malware appeared that would run on Macs with PowerPC processors, like yours. Many recent pieces of malware don't even work on Snow Leopard on a more recent Intel Mac, requiring a newer system than that. So you're probably not at risk.
There's always the risk that some hacker creates some malware for outdated systems, with known vulnerabilities that are no longer getting patched, but that's exceedingly unlikely for any system older than Snow Leopard, due to the small number of such machines that are still in use.
Just be sure to exercise caution online, and you should be okay.
Thanks both for your help. You're probably right, I can't imagine very many hackers get out of bed thinking "what can I do to attack a powermac today?"!
The only real issue to watch out for is e-mail attachments. They have almost zero chance of infecting your system, but they could harbor windows viruses that could infect family/friends systems if you forward/attach a bad file.
Just use common sense and don't download anything from torrent sites or unknown webpages.
