Q: Will FCE compress and export as quickly as PC's PowerDirector?
I edited about 50 minutes worth of video into roughly nine minutes of actual footage using iMovie. I have FCE...but for such a short video thought iMovie would be fine. Maybe my first mistake. Took about an hour to compress a 9 minute video using Quicktime and Expert Settings...but more importantly two hours compressed to export to YouTube. We're talking about 372 MB...
I put the question out there on a social network site, and was told by one person that PC's PowerDirector editor takes perhaps seconds to import a clip versus 39 minutes using iMovie. He has both a PC and an iMac...
To be honest, I did not think the choice of an editor would affect exporting/uploading time one way or the other. Since we live rurally...bandwidth and time online becomes an issue with our mode of connection, and for this reason exploring and learning a better more efficient way to speed exporting time would be nice. Would FCE have greatly reduced time to export?
Thanks...

There are too many variables involved to answer your question with any accuracy. The correct answer would depend on:
- processor speed and data throughput speed of each computer
- video codec of each source file
- video codec chosen for exporting
- location of source files and connection method (e.g.: SATA, Thunderbolt, Firewire, USB 2.0 or 3.0)
There are other variables, but those will have the most influence on the speed on the process.
Uploading time is dependent on your internet connection speed at the time of upload - upload speeds will vary depending as the amount of network traffic varies throughout the day.
