Power pc apps in lion BUT with multiple user facility

Hi all

I want to utilise lions multiple screen sharing (terminal services) for multiple users but I have to use a power pc app which doesn't run in lion! Does anyone know if I can run my power pc app on 10.6.8 using Rosetta within lion BUT still use multiple users scenario!???

Basically trying to figure out if 10.7 facility can work even though running app through 10.6.8

Thanks

When you say multiple user, please explain. Do you mean view other desktops for other users on one computer?

If you want to view screens on multiple devices, you can select to Screen share in System Preferences > Sharing. Under Shared in the Sidebar of a Finder window, select to Screen share with other device.

I like ScreenSharingMenulet in the MacAppStore to easly share screens with my other computers.

TeamViewer is free to screen share. LogMeIn used to be free but recently moved to a paid subscription.

Can you provide us more information about the app?

I have not used multiple screens, but I do not see any reason why it should not work this way.

Are there other alternatives than the sls method within lion for running ppc apps???

How old? If it is a "classic" application, then it presents a different problem with a different answer.

Here is the "canned" answer I have for this general question abour running PowerPC applications:

Unfortunately you got caught up in the minor miracle of Rosetta. Originally licensed by Apple when it migrated from the PowerPC CPU platform that it had used from the mid-1990's until the Intel CPU platform in 2006, Rosetta allowed Mac users to continue to use their library of PPC software transparently in emulation.

However, Apple's license to continue to use this technology expired with new releases of OS X commencing with Lion (and now Mountain Lion). While educational efforts have been made over the last 6 years, the fact is that Rosetta was SO successful that many users were caught unaware UNTIL they upgraded to Lion or Mountain Lion.

Workarounds:

1. If your Mac will support it, restore OS X Snow Leopard;

2. If your Mac will support it, partition your hard drive or add an external hard drive and install Snow Leopard into it and use the "dual-boot" method to choose between your PowerPC software or Lion/Mt. Lion/Mavericks;

3. Upgrade your software to Intel compatible versions if they are available, or find alternative software that will open your data files, modify them and save them;

4. Install Snow Leopard Server (with Rosetta) into Parallels or VMWare Fusion. Apple is now selling Snow Leopard Server for only $19.99 + sales tax & shipping; call 1.800.MYAPPLE (1.800.692.7753). This solution will give you concurrent use of your PowerPC applications and access to Lion, Mt. Lion or Mavericks.

i got around to loading SLS on parralels 9, i am using screen sharing apple vnc to connect to the mac that has VM SLS on it, im trying to vnc from various other machines concurrently but am running into problems with multiple users, the lag on the mouse is ridiculous and the screen flickers, making it inoperable. Can i connect direct to the VM SLS or do i have to connect to the Lion machine that has parralels on it?

any suggestions?

Can you please be more descriptive of what is being accomplished here?

From the point of view of User A, User B, Mac A, Mac B, etc.

For example, after defining these terms give me an example of what is going on: User A prints from Mac A to....

As Diane also suggests, knowing the name of the very old printing program may lead to other suggestions as well. 🙂

Imposition publisher.

Vm sls 10.6.3 on mac A running lion 10.7.4. Configured with multiple users a, b, c, d. Problem 1: Seem to be able to only install sls server on 2 sep users only before mac a asks for different serial of osx. Mac b (10.6.8) connects using vnc:// to user a on mac a fine, but when viewing vm sls window of mac a on mac b, it is v slow. At the same time mac c connects to mac a user b running same apps as user a, but screen share is v v v slow and non productive resulting in force quit.

???

Does this mean that multiple users a, b, c and d are all using some form of screen sharing (and/or VNC) to view and/or control Mac A? Or each is getting their own desktop to utilize? (I realize you answer this earlier but I need a clarification while I currently have your attention).

Are they Macs or PCs?

Are they accomplishing this in a nearby office setting, or at a distance over the internet?

I am assuming that all four users need to access Snow Leopard to access Imposition Publisher? Which version of Imposition Publisher are you using (10.1.5)?

What are the specifications of Mac A: model, RAM etc.

Are all four users somehow launching four copies of Parallels?

How did you accomplish the end result BEFORE Lion was released; that is, before Lion introduced multiple accounts/displays.

I have Parallels installed in Lion on my Mac Mini.

Give me some brief instruction on how I can simulate A B C and D doing to my computer what they do to yours.

I'll use my MacBook Pro and some of my other Mac Minis...
