MacBook Pro scratching and destroying DVD's

I thought it was originally a faulty DVD but after the second time I knew something was up. The DVD kept ejecting and refusing to play on my MacBook so I decided to play it on a DVD player and the disc does not exist. This is the second time the disc drive has completely destroyed the DVD. It's become kind of translucent as well. It's also made line scratches and circle scratches on other discs. Is this a problem with my drive? Will I have to take it in for repair? I still have my 1yr warranty and apple care protection program. I will be contacting Apple on Monday. Has anyone else had this problem or know some more information? Thankyou
