Power Adaptor

I took my MacBook Pro (17in, Early 2011) into a certified repair store to repair a damaged hard drive; however, no that the hard drive is fixed my Mac will only be in Power Adaptor. I can't get it to switch back to battery power. I know the charger works, I tested it on a friends computer. Any ideas?
