Mid 2010 MacBook Pro 13inch - Issues w/ all browsers

Hello all! Please read the entire post before replying. I have attempted several fixes for my problem based on other posts, but to no avail.

Problem: My mid-2010 MBP is having issues w/ all browers (Safari, Chrome, Mozilla). Simply, I'll be online with email, reading news, shopping, working, etc. and the browser is working fine and then out of the blue when I attempt to go to a new page the status bar will load about 15%-20% (as if it's working properly), then stop and advance no further. The remainder of the page will not load and I am unable to do anything online. This happens regardless of the browser I am using. The only immediate fix I have found is to quit the app and restart the computer. I have had this problem in several differnet locations and on several different networks. There seems to be no rhyme or reason as to when or where this happens. There are sometimes where the browser works fine.

Attempted Solutions:

1. Uninstalling and reinstalling all 3 of the above mentioned browsers. Didn't help.

2. Purchased and Installed MacKeeper. Ran scans to check for viruses, maleware, etc. - any issue located was dealt with appropraitely. And the problem persisted.

3. Ran Apple Hardware Test from the disc that came with my MBP (Both quick and longer versions of the test). No hardware issue was located.

4. Ok so maybe the issue is software. Attempted to reinstall Mac OS X from disc that came with my MBP (Snow Leopard). Please note that my current OS is Maverick 10.9.2. Upon restarting with "C" help down, I begin to navigate through the prompts. About step 3 where I must select the startup disk, I chose the local HD. I receive an error message at the bottom that I cannot use my local HD as the startup disk, but there is no other option. I am not sure what's going on here. There may be an error with running Maverick and attempting to go backwards to Snow Leopard, but if the issue is software OS related how can I reinstall my OS?

The only next option, that I am aware of, is to replace the physical wifi component as that might be the issue. However, the Wifi signal always shows there is a signal and will dsicover mutliple networks (where there are multiple networks).

Does anyone else have this problem or know of a possible solution I haven't tried?

Thanks in advance!!

If the fixes suggested by Pennbank do not help and you want to reinstall SL you will need to erase the disk before trying to install SL. You cannot install an old OS over a later one.

When starting by holding th C key with the SL DVD installed, use Disk Utility on the DVD to erase the disk then carry on with the install.

If you have an external disk that you can erase you can test the installtion by installing to the external drive.

Have all your data backed up before you erase the HDD.

If you make an install USB thumb drive with Mavericks you can install mavericks with that, save installing SL then upgrading.

This will create a Mavericks install USB thumb drive, you will not need to install SL, just boot from the thumb drive and reinstall the OS. You may be able to install without erasing the drive, it will replace the OS files and hopefully cure your problem.

If it does not cure the fault then use the thumb drive to boot from, erase the disk and install the OS.

If you erase the drive you will need to reinsatll all your data and applications, be sure to have install media for you applications and test the data on your external drive is good.

This another link that may explain it better.

The ouput on my machine is this, I just copied and pasted the command from the Apple web page. I have used this command to make the install drives, in fact I always have one of the thumb drives with my backups. Remember this page from apple was just the help info for the command.

Do not get the output disk name wrong or you will write over the wrong disk.

/Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ Mavericks.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia

Usage: createinstallmedia --volume <path to volume to convert> --applicationpath <path to Install OS X Mavericks.app> [--force]

Arguments--volume, A path to a volume that can be unmounted and erased to create the install media.

--applicationpath, A path to copy of the OS installer application to create the bootable media from.

--nointeraction, Erase the disk pointed to by volume without prompting for confirmation.

Example: createinstallmedia --volume /Volumes/Untitled --applicationpath /Applications/Install OS X Mavericks.app

This tool must be run as root.

I did not downgrade to SL. I've uninstalled MacKeeper and was able to create a reinstall for Maverick on a USB stick. I've used the USB stick to reinstall Maverick. So far this seems to have fixed the issues I was having, but as I said in the original post. There had seemed to be no rhyme or reason for the issues I was having.
