Screen out back up

My screen is black and I can't swipe to back it up before taking it in to get a new phone. Help?

iPhone 4S, iOS 7.1

Here is an article I would recommend going through when experiencing this issue. If the issue persists after processing these steps, see the section labeled Issue not resolved.


Display has no backlight or dark screen

  1. Toggle the ringer switch to see if the unit vibrates. If it does, it could be that iPhone is getting power, but is not displaying any image.
  2. Try turning iPhone off and then on again.
  3. While connected to the iPhone charger, try to reset the iPhone.
  4. If the low-battery screen appears, charge the iPhone.

Also, screen curtain may be enabled. Screen curtain is a feature that allows display privacy. To disable screen curtain while VoiceOver is enabled, you can three finger triple tap the screen to disable this feature. You may need to press the home button once in order to process these steps.
