Face time Failing?

Recently when trying to call or recieve a call on my Mac using Face Time, it keeps failing. It'll ring, but nothing else. I did some Googling on the problem and wasn't able to locate an answer that worked for me. I've tried restarting my computer, creating a new FT account, and nothing. My WIFI connection is strong. Any idea on how to fix it? Also, I'm not super technologically capable 🙂, so a dummied down set of instructions would work best.

Thanks!

Hello, Kimberly.

Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.

Here is an article that I would recommend going through when experiencing issues with FaceTime.

Troubleshooting FaceTime for Mac

You can make FaceTime calls using the FaceTime app. You can call FaceTime users whose contact information is in Contacts. You can add contacts and edit contact information in either FaceTime or Contacts. To place a video call, you may use a phone number or email address.

If you encounter issues making or receiving FaceTime calls, try the following:

  • Verify that FaceTime is enabled in FaceTime > Preferences.

If the issue persists, or if you see the message "Waiting for Activation", try toggling FaceTime off and then on.

  • Verify that the Date, Time, and Time Zone are set correctly:
    1. From the Apple () menu, choose System Preferences > Date & Time > Date & Time.
    2. Enable "Set Automatically".
    3. Click the Time Zone tab and confirm the closest city is correct.
  • Verify that both parties are connected to an active broadband Internet connection.
  • Verify the phone number or email address being used is the correct one activated for FaceTime.

You can verify that you are using a valid Apple ID at appleid.apple.com. You can also create an Apple ID or reset your password from this website.

  • Verify that both parties have installed the latest software updates for their Mac and/or device. See:

Judging by all the posts on the forum, there seems to be an issue at Apple's end, although they have made no announcement on their status page. Some users have reported that Apple is aware of the issue. Sadly, we have to wait for Apple to provide some sort of update/fix. Be certain to leave feedback to express your feelings for Apple at the link below.

I am wondering if you ever found a way to resolve this issue. I am having trouble connecting to FaceTime. It fails on both my iPhone and Desktop.

I tried updating the software, turning it off and on, registering new emails. I basically tried everything Apple Support suggests and have yet to be able to connect via facetime in over a month. Anyone else having the same issue?

My issues were between a late 2011 15" Macbook Pro running Mavericks and a mid-2010 13" Macbook on Lion. I had my daughter update to Mavericks and this did not change the situation.

She discovered that removing her iPhone 4S from the network fixed the problem (she is using it as an iPod - no phone service or data plan). As soon as she turned off her iPhone, we had no more problems getting the two laptops connected. Go figure.
