Thanks for the info and I have finally had a chance to work on this. I have to say I may have gotten my iTunes terminology mixed up. In my original post I said that the iTunes Library would not be moved. I should have said that the media files are stored on a server and would not be moved. The library (I think I am using the term correctly now) was on my old computer. I also should have mentioned that I use Music Match so all of the music on my account are in the cloud. So here is what I did and what happened. Upon setting up the new computer I downloaded iTunes which apparently set up a new library on the new computer. Then,
- I logged into my account
- It looked like all of my music and playlists appeared.
- In Preferrences, I changed the path for the iTunes Media Folder location to the file on the server.
- However, all of my songs have the symbol
- When I click "get info" they say the location is On the Cloud.
- I downloaded one of the songs and it made a copy of the song onto my folder on the server so now there are two copies of the song.
What did I do wrong? Is there a way to point iTunes to the Media Folder on the server so that the library gets populated with music from the server? Or will I have to download all of the music from the cloud and then delete each duplicate? That would be pretty onerous.
Also, I have not attempted to set up the other 3 accounts and none of that music is on Music Match so not on the cloud. Will I be able to point those libraries on those accounts to the respective Media Files on the server?
Hopefully that explains my problem. Thanks in advance for any assistance.
