I was also getting the 1005d error when I tried to reboot my rMBP early 2013 using holding down the "D" key when powering up & connecting using WiFi. I reloaded the Apple diagnostics programs into my /system/library/coreservices/.diagnostics directory & it still didn't work. I searched the Apple community form & online & didn't find a specific answer. It was Alberto Ravasios' post on network problems & than many time a unspecific error code 1005d would appear gave me a clue to my solution.

In my case my rMBP needs to be connected directly to the network through the thunderbolt ethernet adapter & not using WiFi.

Once I did that it worked fine. I'm really aggravated that Apple support doesn't have that listed as a solution or require directly connecting by ethernet before running diagnostics. It would have saved me hours of searching.
