Airport Extreme DHCP Relay

I replaced my Airport Extreme with a new router because the Extreme kept dropping the PPPoE connection.

Now I'd like to replace an Airport Express with the Extreme so I can use the 5GHz WiFiconnection.

Trouble is, I can't get the Extreme to relay DHCP.

I set it up exactly the same as my two Airport Expresses, but the Extreme will not relay DHCP to wired clients the way the Expresses do.

The setup for all three (two Expresses and one Extreme) is as follows:

Airport->Wireless: Join a wireless network

Internet->Internet Connection->Connect Using: Wireless Network/Connection Sharing: Off (Bridge Mode)

What have I done wrong?

Apple routers you do not join wireless.. you extend wireless. The two are different.

In join wireless the Express is wireless to ethernet bridge.

In join wireless the Extreme is a dumb client.. it will neither work as AP nor as ethernet.

But in extend wireless you can do both wireless repeater and ethernet connection.

It has to be apple to apple routers though, otherwise it won't work.

In other words, there's really no use now to which I can put the Airport Extreme.

My house is very small and I already have a strong wireless signal in all the rooms.

Any ideas?

You can use the extreme by plugging it by ethernet into the main router.. set it in bridge mode .. that is router bridge not wireless bridge just so that is clear.. you can then use the Extreme for your 5ghz signal.

Otherwise it really doesn't have a lot of use in your kind of network.
