Q: Preventing Clips From Being Automatically Split on Import

I'm importing from an HDV camcorder that uses cassette tapes using Final Cut Express 4's "capture" feature. I remember a long time ago that it used to leave everything imported as one single clip. I changed some setting back then, so now, it splits it into clips whenever there is a cut. How do I switch it back? I've checked everything in the prefences and menus and can't find the option anywhere.

HDV capture has always split clips in FCE, it's normal behaviour.

During capture FCE is actually changing the native MPEG 2 compressed footage to AIC ( Apple Intermediate Codec) So it can handle each frame on an individual basis. Makes it edit friendly.

DV could capture complete tapes in one clip.

I must have remembered incorrectly, or it was somehow not detecting the cuts before. Thanks for clearing it up. By the way, I thought it had to do with the video dropouts I was seeing, but it turns it that my HD Sony tapes (vs regular Panasonic ones) were causing them.
