Transfering Time Machine backup hd from usb to Airport extreme.

I have a usb hd which i use as a time mahine backup. Since purchasing the brand new airport extreme ac i want to move my hd from direct usb to back of the airport extreme. thought it would be a simple process.

i notice my usb hd on my airport extreme, however when i selected it (time machine preference option), it thinks it is a second hd and ask if i wanted two different backups or keep as a single backup location.

i dont want to wait another 10 hours of backup the machine and lose all my historical backups.

any advise?

It is impossible to do what you want.. Time Machine does not backup the same way to a local drive and to a network drive.

Even copying the backup from the USB drive on the computer to a second USB drive on the AE will be tricky. You simply cannot do it without buying a second drive.
