I have just purchased a Sony A6000
I can't import the photos to iPhoto in RAW. I have the latest updates on my Macbook and iPhoto. Can anyone tell me why?
MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012), OS X Mavericks (10.9.2)

Why not?
No one here cna answer any Why question
A wild guess - it is too new?
Typically Sony RAW is supported fairly quikly - but that too is just a wild guess - Not suuported is a biniary condition and at this time according to the Apple documentation the A 6000 Raw is nor on the list so not supported

The Raw from every model of camera is different. Note: that's every model not every brand. So, the NEF produced by a Nikon D300 is not the same as the NEF produced by a D5000, the CR2 produced by a Canon 60D is not the same as the CR2 produced by a Canon 7D and so on.
Therefore the Raw for every camera model needs to be added individually. If yours is not supported then let them know you want it:
iPhoto menu -> Provide iPhoto Feedback
Just gave them feedback thorugh Aperture feedback. Hope this will be fixed soon. Doubting about going to Adobe Lightroom. They are much faster with RAW updates.
I'm never sure about the benefits of moving to Lightroom just because they update Raw profiles faster. How often do you change camera? And do you always change to a very recently released model? It's a big step - and expensive - for a feature that you might need once.
I'm willing to wait another week. For me the Adobe CC suite is only 9,95 Euros a year. So that isn't too much.
Apple should make some forecast about their RAW support.
Apple never pre-announces dates for software (or hardware usually for that matter)

Well it's May 5th and they still have not updated to support A6000. One option for now is to set camera settings to save as JPEG (I know that is not the best solution but JPEG's import). The other option is to buy Lightroom for $150.
I'm in same dilema as you so let's see how fast Apple updates. Let's hope it is soon! :-)
LR is not a solution to importing RAW from anywhere - it may (or may not) support RAW from a camera that iPhoto/Aperture does not - but it is a substantially different program with a large learning curve and no intergration with Mac software and no ability to share photos with iPhoto - many people use and love it - but it is certtainly not a solution to RAW support for a specific camera
If LR supports A6000 RAW then you probably can use the Adobe RAW conversion package (without LR) to downoad the RAW and convert to JPEGs
If two weeks is a killer for getting RAW support then - WOW is all I can say
In any case the other users here can do nothing to speed or slow it

Thanks Larry
You ae welcome

Just switched to Adobe Lightroom by subscribing to Adobe CC for 9,95 Euros a year.
Apple can't begin to add support for a camera until they get the necessary information from the manufacturer. Who's to say Apple dropped the ball or Sony?
I don't realy care. I'm Apple's customer and I payed for aperture and OSX including frequent updates. I don't have the need to analyze who's the "guilty" one. Apple can't help a6000 owners after more than a month. Adobe can help. Easy.
