If I create a slideshow using iPhoto on my iPad, can I delete the slideshow from my iPad yet have it remain on the web? The slideshows take up too much memory on my device and I would like to create them, publish them and the delete from my iPad.

That is not possible.
If you delete your slideshow from the iPad, there will remain an empty slideshow fragment on your iCloud home page, with no way to remove this fragment: I just tried again - deleted a slideshow from the iPad, without first unpublishing it from iCloud. I cannot recommend to do that.
