Q: iTunes play count

Q: iTunes play count

I just got a new, non-Apple computer and manually transfered my iTunes library from the old. However, I've lost my plays count. I don't know if I was part of the iCoud on the old computer, or if I've signed up for it on the new. Can the plays count still be retrieved?

Hey wdnewberry,

Thanks for the question. When you moved your music to your new computer, did you copy the iTunes Library files as well? Playlists, play counts, and other information are stored within your iTunes Library files. To retrieve these, you may want to re-visit this process following these steps (see the external drive section):

I made sure to copy the entire iTunes folder from the Programs folder on my old computer, and then moved it to the Programs folder on the new computer after I'd downloaded iTunes. I did manage to save all my songs, but my playlists weren't saved (which was no big deal) and I lost my plays count. But I will go back into the old comp's Library files and try to re-save those specifically and re-upload to the new.

I've copied the iTunes Library Extras, iTunes Library Genius, iTules Library database files, as well as the iTunes Music Library XML file, as well as the previous iTunes Library file directly from my old computer and placed them onto my new one. The old iTues plays count is not coming up. I'm going to try consolidating the list and transfering that to see if it works.
