Let me clarify. iPads don't send SMS text messages to anybody including Apple devices. iPads can send iMessages  to other Apple devices.

You're welcome. If you had a iPhone you could send both types of messages. SMS goes over the cellular voice line which iPads don't have. Which is also why you can't make a call from an iPad without a specialized app.
