How to create a MIDI track?

I need to know how create a brand new MIDI track so that I can use it with one of the virtual instruments. I also need to know where specify the MIDI In ports for this track. Can someone help? Logic is the most confusing computer software I have ever worked with!

G5, Mac OS X (10.4.7)

First of all, if your looking to use virtual instruments (like the synths that come with logic), you must create an instrument (not a midi) track. Midi tracks are for external midi synths. To do this, simply create a new track, click and hold on the instruments name, and select the next available instrument track.

I dont want to sound mean, but you really should at read the "getting started" manual that comes with Logic, or at the very least do a search of these forums before posting. Creating tracks is VERY easy, and IMO does not warrant a post, bumping much more important topics further down the list, especially when there have already been numerous posts on these forums regarding this topic.

BTW, if you are like me and dont like reading, there are some great Logic video tutorials that cover all the basics at this website: http://www.macprovideo.com/browse/logic

Though it may seem intimidating now, you will get the hang of it with a little study and practice. I wish you all the best with Logic!

what is your problem? i asked a question that makes sense. it's the getting started manual that doesnt make sense.

im at the part where it says to make a lead solo over the last 8 bars with the virtual instrument. however, i hear no sound when playing the keyboard. i recorded a midi track and had it play back through my keyboard's speakers confirming that my midi connection works.

can SOMEONE ELSE please help?

yes, I did. the problem was solved, i think my tutorial song is broken in terms of MIDI compatibility with recording the Virtual Instrument as stated by the Getting Started Guide. But, I did figure out how to finally create a MIDI track, and an Virtual Instrument tracks later when I created a custom template. Does anyone find it odd that you can only specify the kind of track that's going to be used after it's actually created unless using the create multiple tracks feature, and that still doesnt allow u to completely specify what kind of audio track it's gonna be when using the multiple feature (audio vs master fader vs virtual instrument)? In Digital Performer it was real easy to define the type of track being created before actually creating one identical to the one selected in the arrange window. But then again, Digital Performer didn't have all these fancy plugins and virtual instrument with barely any presets.
