From the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
Turn all extensions OFF and test. If the problem is resolved, turn extensions back ON and then disable them one or a few at a time until you find the culprit.
I currently have no extensions at all. I had ad blocker which prevented the google search ads. But only if with the ad blocker. ad blocker is currently deleted. But now I also have the green underlined word links appearing on webpages.

Removing the /Library/Application Support/VSearch folder solved the problem for me.
But I trashed the following remnant files just to be thorough:
/Library/LaunchAgents/com.vsearch.agent.plist
/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.vsearch.daemon.plist
/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.vsearch.helper.plist
/System/Library/Frameworks/VSearch.framework
(The 'Jack' files referenced in the article were not found.)

I deleted /System/Library/Frameworks/VSearch.framework and it did the trick.

This did it for me. Found three adware aps on my Mac. All gone now.

I tried removing extensions, installing AdBlock, deleting cookies, all to no avail.
I'm all set now.
Worked for me. I would also recommend thomas_r's Adware Removal Guide. I found three adware apps running and messing with my Safari privacy settings.
For all that are plagued with this problem with ads in the newest Safari update here is the solution. AdBlock does not work. This solutions come from an Apple Tech person that I spoke to when I was having the problem. Download and use AdwareMedic. It got rid of all ad the problems.
Seriously that easy folks. This guy knows what he is talking about. Awesome!!!!!!!!
