Q: Find My iPhone (MBP and MacPro "offline")

when i log on to "Find My iPhone" section of iCloud.com (from my desktop Mac Pro) it eventually picks up my my iPhone but my Mac Pro (Mountain Lion) and my MBP (Mavericks) show up as "offline".

i have tried to troubleshoot this repeatedly over the last year and a half and from what i recall i am supposed to turn on location settings or something on the MBP and the Mac Pro cannot be located because it is running ML or something?

does anyone know what the deal is with all of this?

ALSO, if i run the app from my iPhone it immediately recognizes the iPhone as "this device" and it shows the MacBook Pro almost immediately but the Mac Pro still shows as "offline".

what gives? obviously i /should/ at the very least see the MBP while on iCloud.com, no?

full disclosure: i use a me.com account if that matters...

Some things you can check include making sure you Macs are connected to the internet using wifi, not just an ethernet cable. Also make sure the data and time is set correctly (go to System Preferences>Date & Time and check "Set Time and Date Automatically" on the Date & Time tab). Also check to be sure location services is turned on on your Macs in System Preferences>Security & Privacy (see: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5403).

OK. thank you.

if i am not mistaken Mountain Lion will not let me have the Mac Pro show up in this utility because it just doesn't support it so wired or not wired is not an issue it is just the OS i think.

also, for some very weird reason i was able to access the MBP from the iPhone App and then the MBP showed up on the Mac Pro in me.com.

i will try and check this again and post back if it is an issue again.

I had same issue and found the solution Set up Find My iPhone, iPad, and Mac - Apple Support

You can set up Find My Mac when you go to Apple menu > System Preferences > iCloud. Check the box to turn on Find My Mac.

ok. thanks. I think 2006 Mac Pro will only support mountain lion and this is does not support find my Mac at least from what I remember on this issue...
