I came home and found my cats had done some stepping on my keyboard. Now I have this oblong black text box that will not go away from my screen. How do I get rid of this unwanted "feature"??? Please respond

Go to System Preferences>Accessibility>VoiceOver> and uncheck "Enable VoiceOver."
Depending upon your system setup you may also be able to use the (⌘F5), or (option/⌘/F5) keyboard shortcut to toggle it on/off.
THANK YOU!!! I am so nerdy when it comes to this iMac! I followed your directions and it fixed it fine! I shall hide my keyboard while I'm away from the computer......crazy cats!
