why is it that every time i FaceTime through my mac or iPhone 5 my FaceTime fails or stays connecting forever?

Hello,

I had the same issue, started or noticed it this past weekend (4/21, 4/22). After troubleshooting, I noticed that some colleagues who were on IOS 7.1.1 didn't have the problem connecting. However, I didn't this issue before, I was on 7.0.1 connecting to 5.0.1, 6.0 and 7.0.1 and now it FAILS to connect everytime. As soon as i updated my IOS to 7.1.1, facetime started to work. I'm waiting on the other iDevices to finish their update (they are across the US and overseas) and try again. Thanks for heads up apple!!
