Sorry, apparently yu are misunderstanding my point. Yur suggestions are only for the 'mouse cursor'! I am talking about the 'insertion point' - which one uses when typing text.
Please try agen!
Thanks,
B.
As far as i know is the insertion point (the vertical, blinking Bar indicating where you are typing) only linked to the Fontsize and Zoomlevel of the Document.
Maybe the Zoomlevel maybe an Option for you?
This seems to be true for about anykind of Word-Processor like Word or OpenOffice.

As Christian says you can zoom the screen resolution which will enlarge the insertion point.
The balance Apple chooses would be to not make the cursor so oversize that it actually obscures the adjacent characters.
You need to explore to find a combination to match your needs.
If you have a look under the Display option you can raise the contrast, invert the display and various other options to suit.

Maybe it might help to increase the Zoomlevel of the Pages Documents only?
You can adjust the Zoomlevel in Pages 5 (and above) per Document or in the Pages Settings.
Sorry that the Screenshots show the German Version of Pages but the Layout of Icons and Settings should be the same.
i Think that "Anzeigegröße" will be "Default Zoom" in English Versions of iWork
