Why does Logic Pro 9's playback stop working after a couple of minuets?

I have recently upgraded to OSX Mavericks. Before this update everything was working fine. Now that I have upgraded, after a few minuets of using logic my playback stops. I have cheacked outputs and made sure nothing is solo'd or muted. If I then restart the project it works fine again for a few more minuets. There is no error pop-up either.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Kyle

No.. LP9.1.8 and Mavericks 10.9.2 working just fine here... so it has to be something to do with your own system, setup/installation somehow...

Do you use a Midi/Audio interface? If so, did you upgrade their drivers (if any used) to the latest 10.9.2 versions?

...and of course, are your Midi/Audio interfaces compatible with Mavericks 10.9.2 in the first place? Did you check before upgrading to Mavericks?

To test, in this order....

Shut down your Mac.

Unplug both devices

Restart your Mac and test using Logic 9's built in keyboard (Caps Lock)..... and see what happens...

If you still get issues then delete Logic's own prefs and the CS prefs too and test again without plugging in any of your devices...

  1. In the Finder, choose Go > Go to Folder from the menu.
  2. Type ~/Library/Preferences in the "Go to the folder" field.
  3. Press the Go button.
  4. Remove the com.apple.logic.pro.plist file from the Preferences folder. Note that if you have programmed any custom key commands, this will reset them to the defaults. You may wish to export your custom key command as a preset before performing this step. See the Logic Pro User Manual for details on how to do this. If you are having trouble with a control surface in Logic Pro, then you may also wish to delete the com.apple.logic.pro.cs file from the preferences folder.
  5. If you have upgraded from Logic Pro 7, you may also need to remove~/Library/Preferences/Logic/com.apple.logic.pro.
  6. Restart your Mac

Now if that works ok.. plug in one of your devices at a time and test again until you find the culprit...

Hi

Before doing further drastic steps you need to work out where the problem lies.

With a new project from the default empty template (no plugins), and just some Apple Loops in the Tracks Area:

1) Disconnect the audio interface and run Logic using the Built-In audio (Preferences:Audio:Devices). Problem goes away?

2) Disconnect audio interface and the keyboard controller and run using Bulit-In audio. Problem goes away?

Once you have found out the answer to these, further troubleshooting may or may not be necessary.

I'm still getting the problem after doing this. I don't think it's a issue with my divices but a bug in Logic.

I think this becuase I have found out if I either hit the solo shortcut "S", and click it again the sound returns, and if I click command Z this also fixes it. Also I have noticed it only cuts off when I move a region.

I have been continuing my projects with using those quick fixes.

Cheers,

Kyle

Ok.. you are talking about audio sound not playback....

Clicking S twice to get sound back indicates you had something in Solo Safe mode....

Command Z is the undo command so you are undoing whatever you did previously,.... which sounds like you are putting something into Solo Safe Mode based on what else you said you found, fixes it...

Does this happen with a brand new project?

You might have messed up the key commands in which case.. delete Logic's prefs as per this....

Delete the user preferences
You can resolve many issues by restoring Logic Pro X back to its original settings. This will not impact your media files. To reset your Logic Pro X user preference settings to their original state, do the following:

  1. In the Finder, choose Go to Folder from the Go menu.
  2. Type ~/Library/Preferences in the "Go to the folder" field.
  3. Press the Go button.
  4. Remove the com.apple.logic10.plist file from the Preferences folder. Note that if you have programmed any custom key commands, this will reset them to the defaults. You may wish to export your custom key command as a preset before performing this step. See the Logic Pro X User Manual for details on how to do this. If you are having trouble with a control surface in Logic Pro X, then you may also wish to delete the com.apple.logic.pro.cs file from the preferences folder.
  5. If you have upgraded from an earlier version of Logic Pro, you should also remove~/Library/Preferences/Logic/com.apple.logic.pro.
  6. Restart the computer.

If you are not sure how Solo Safe is getting turned on.. the latter part of the foilowing thread may help... (see the stuff about CC9 or a control assignment)
