Some photos are not being adjusted - Lumix ones and some iPhone

I have taken a whole slew of photos using my Canon50D, my iPhone5S and myPanasonic DMC-TS20 Lumix digital small camera - I'm working with Aperture on my Macbook Pro running 10.9+ and Aperture 3.5.1 and not having any problems with the Canon images but no adjustments are possible with the Panasonic and as for the iPhone, some of them won't be adjusted but most are [the movies are not of course] - i can't figure out a pattern, and I'm trying to do just the quick edit to see if anything works- the little spinning ball at the bottom says Processing but there is no creation of a new version [I have my prefs set to create a new version on making adjustments] - any ideas???

MacBook Pro, OS X Mavericks (10.9.1)

What is the image format of the photos that cannot be adjusted?

Are your Panasonic DMC-TS20 image files RAW or JPG?

Are the iPhone photos special in any way? Part of a burst? HDR-Photos?

And are the photos referenced or managed?

Have you tried, if you can edit these photos, if you import them into a new, empty Aperture library, created for testing?

They are jpgs. The iPhone 5S pictures are back camera - I sometimes use HDR but looked at the eXIF information and it says 'exposure, normal program' - not sure where else HDR would be noted. No burst shots.

The Panasonic is also jpg -

they are all managed = not referenced. So, when I select one and hit adjustments/quick effects for instance, I see the histogram at top and maybe curves line too and the little spinning ball at bottom left which says Processing and it's also in the Activity list as Processing - and it says generating preview for Version 2 but there is nothing that results -- that's why I am stymied == the main issue is with Panasonic photos but it's also true of iPhone ones that should adjust [not movies, I know that]

thanks.

Does a new library work?

Can you edit the images in question in an external editor?

Can you export the originals for these versions?

I've been away but brought back images = and had several of them taken by iPhone 5S -- some of them were easily adjusted [auto enhance] but 1/3 or so of them would not -- they were taken with the same phone, have the same file size, iso, aperture etc. I don't know of any difference between one that adjusted just fine and the other that did not.
