'Support' for unsupported Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T9

Good morning. I'm about to get my first digital camera, and am considering the Sony Cybershot T9, which is currently not listed as supported by iPhoto.

Is anyone currently able to use this camera with iPhoto?

Is it typical for cameras not officially supported yet to work with iPhoto based upon similarities with other models?

If not, how often does Apple typically update iPhoto to add support to new models of camera?

Any thoughts much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I was able to download the manual from Sony' site and, yes, the T9 is compatible with Mac. The information isn't too clear and you need to read between the lines but all you need to do is configure the camera for PTP mode for iPhoto access.

There'a also a mass storage mode if you don't want to import directly into iPhoto - the camera will show up as an external drive on the desktop.

With both modes, make certain that you configure Image Capture properly.

Hi Duntsan Cooke,

The only worry would be if the Sony was not recognized by your Mac. You would not be able to download you images to your computer.

I believe the Sony T9 comes with a built-in 60MB of memory. You could probably take upto 15 - 18 Photos until you ran out of room. You can also purchase a 'Memory Stick Duo' card which the Sony T9 uses, if you were going to use a card with your camera, you probably will not have any problems downloading photos using a Card Reader.
