Calendar App Sending Notifications for Hidden "US Holidays" Calendar

Because the calendar I am syncing to already contains all of the relevant US holidays, I have cleared the check box for the US Holidays calendar under the "Calendars/Other" menu within the app. There appears to be no way to unsubscribe from this calendar. Even though the check box is not selected and the calendar is hidden, iOS is still sending me notifications for these US holidays.

For example, Easter was listed in my synced Google Calendar. At 9am on Sunday, i received two notifications for Easter although the holiday is only listed once in my iOS calendar. Earth Day is not listed in my Google Calendar, however at 9am today i received a notification for it even though it is not visible in my iOS calendar.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I'm having the same issue on iPad and iPhone 5s. Definitely don't need alerts from holidays that are not even on my calendar. Please somebody respond if you know how to fix this!!!

Just a hunch...but I wonder if my OS X Maverics / iCloud account was part of the problem.

I tried disabling the US Holidays options in the calendar app in Maverics because of the way Maverics uses my iCloud account to sync between my Mac Book and iPhone.

Try this as a fix from Mavericks...

Open Calendar app > Preferences > [disable any US holidays options / notifications]

Otherwise I was getting the same "fantom" calendar reminders from my IOS7 / iPhone 5s.

My other pet peeve was that the option to unsubscribe to the US holidays was NOT located in the IOS Settings > Calendar section...exactly where I would expect to find the option to unsubscribe. 😕

UPDATE

This method fixed my issue so it seems.

It is now two days before Memorial Day, a US Holiday, and I have yet to receive a calendar reminder about it on my iPhone 5s / iOS7.

I am still having the issue... this past weekend i received an alert for Flag Day, which is nowhere in my entire calendar, and a duplicate notification for Father's Day, fo which i only have one instance of in my calendar. Very frustrating.

Just figured out a solution to this on Yosemite.

1. While in the Calendar app, expand the calendars list on the left side of the window by either:

Clicking the "Calendars" button at the top left of the title bar

Select "View" -> "Show Calendar List" from the menu

2. For each Holidays calendar, right click and select "Get Info"

3. Make sure the "Ignore alerts" checkbox is checked.
