my audio midi setup is not working correctly since the install of maverick os

MacBook Pro, OS X Mavericks (10.9.2)

The upgrade may have reset to default settings ..

Check System Preferences > Sounds > Output

Make sure the correct device is selected and the Mute box is not checked.
