Apr 23, 2014 10:38 AM in response to NuestraCasaby EZ Jim,I tested my old external iSight - both audio and video - on my MacPro with Mavericks and the following apps: Messages (formerly iChat), QuickTimeX, FaceTime, Skype, Photo Booth, iMovie '11 (version 9.0.9), and the latest iMovie (version 10.0.3)
I cannot duplicate your issue in any app. Have you verified your audio source settings like the one in System Preferences
or the ones in each application you are using like these examples:
or
If you are certain that your settings are properly configured, have you tried both FW400 ports on your Mac?
If you have ruled out all the above, it would seem that you are right about a conflict.
Test in another user login account to see if the problem is identical there. Also consider any different AV apps that are on your new Mac that are not on your old PowerMac. Do you use any AV hardware with your new Mac or have you changed the settings in your new Mac's Audio MIDI Setup utility? Do you have any other Firewire devices connected to your new Mac that might be causing Possible Hardware or Software Conflicts with your old external iSight?

Apr 23, 2014 5:05 PM in response to EZ Jimby NuestraCasa,Thanks for the feedback. Isight shows up in Prefs and Audio/Midi but no level monitoring when I speak. Tried Ichat on my Macbook running Lion and video works. no audio again.
Checked system profiler and noticed the firmware is 1.02 rather than the updated 1.03
Looking at other posts upgrading to 1.03 seemed to fiz the issue
So here's the question.............apart from getting a Mac running leopard, how can I upgrade the firmware to 1.03??

Apr 24, 2014 9:48 AM in response to NuestraCasaby EZ Jim,(0) Because you are still having the problem, I suggest you try Reinstalling OS X Mavericks. If the problem remains, also try reinstalling one of the apps that exhibits the problem. If that reinstall gets the app sorted, try reinstalling other problem apps.
(1) Your old external Firewire iSight's firmware should only need to be updated once. If your iSight's firmware has already been updated to 1.0.3 on an older Mac, your OS X 10.5 G5 Mac's System Profiler should show 1.0.3. In that case, your 2008 Mac Pro, OS X Mavericks (10.9.2) System Information should show 1.0.3, too. At least it does on my MacPro, and I have not applied the 1.0.3 iSight updater since I was using a Mac running OS X v10.3.7.
(2) If your 2008 Mac Pro shows a different iSight Firmware version than your G5 even after you have reinstalled your software, I suggest you have your iSight serviced. An Apple Authorized Service Provider can get your old iSight working again if it is economically repairable.
(3) Other alternatives that may cost less include a separate USB mic or a new, current production, Mac-compatible USB webcam with its own mic.

(4) The iSight 1.0.3 Firmware Updater is a PowerPC application, so you need Mac OS X 10.6 with Rosetta or an earlier Mac OS to use it. There is no way that I know to apply the update other than an old Mac and OS.
