Q: Loading pictures onto your iPad

My wife has an iPad mini IOS7 and she wants to load more pictures onto it. She would like to add the photos to the photos on her iPad. How can I do this? I know in my previous experience when you added pictures you more or less delete the other pictures already on the iPad. Thanks.

    If you sync via iTunes, iTunes can only sync the contents of one folder at a time. So if you change that folder then yeah, it'll erase the contents of the last folder. However if you're syncing via iTunes, simply add those photos to the existing folder, sync and the photos should move over.

     

    You can also e-mail them to yourself and save from that mail.

     

    or you can use a service like dropbox, upload the photos there, download them onto your ipad

     

    or there are other third party photo apps that you can use to sync photos (I just don't have any to recommend)

     

    You can also download and install the iCloud control panel and enable photo stream. Then whenever you import photos into that folder they'll sync onto your ipad wirelessly (just takes a bit of time)

    Another way. You can use a USB flash drive & the camera connection kit.

     

    Plug the USB flash drive (works the same with an SD card) into your computer & create a new folder titled DCIM. Then put your movie/photo files into the folder. The files must have a filename with exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension (i.e., my-movie.mov; DSCN0164.jpg).

     

    Now plug the flash drive into the iPad using the camera connection kit. Open the Photos app, the movie/photo files should appear & you can import. (You can not export using the camera connection kit.)

    One thing to know if you choose to use a non-wireless flash drive, I've literally had a 50/50 success rate (I had 14 of them once and put the same file on all of them, only 7 worked, there was no maker or size that univerally worked)

     

    So be prepared to experiment. Or if you want to use the camera kit, honestly, use a SD card. They work consistently while the flash drives don't.
