Q: I keep getting Apple ID message from AirPort Extreme

An Apple ID or password is incorrect or couldn’t be authenticated. Enter the correct Apple ID and password and try again.

I have to select "ignore this issue" under status to make the amber light stop flashing and turn green. I have never had this issue before, what is it? Ere is no place to ever put in an Apple ID on a router...only router admin password, network password, and attached disk access password.

Any ideas? This just started today.

I'm having the same problem and it just started a few hours ago.  My guess is that there is a problem with the iCloud service at present.

You can edit the apple ID and password in airport by clicking on the device, selecting edit, and updating the user id and password in the back to mymac box.

This has occured twice for me within the past 12 hours.  Once reset it works fine then for some reason all device passwords need to be reset.

Okay, so it's not just me. I've reentered my user data four times now. Once before installing the new update yesterday, and three times following. Just popped up for me again about a half-hour ago.

I've also had several issues with imessage on several of our phones and devices the last few days. Makes me wonder if it has anything to do with the updates addressing the heartbleed vulnerability?

Ifl you have the latest 802.11ac AEBS, then there is a firmware update that fixes the HeartBleed vulnerability:

AirPort Base Station Firmware Update 7.7.3. Launch Airport Utility to update.

It's not an upgrade issue, I have done that in all router. Apple ID wasn't even something I set up on either base station.

The upgrade was required for those that use Back to My Mac or Send Diagnostics. Back to My Mac requires an Apple ID, so I believe it actually is due to the upgrade.

If you can get to AirPort Base Station Firmware Update 7.7.3 there are instructions for that. I sometimes end up on the 7.7.2 update page, so keep trying if you don't at first succeed.

This was my experience also. I have both an Airport Time Capsule and an Airport Extreme (ac versions) on my network and both needed the firmware update. However, the update for both of them would not complete and returned an error about the Apple ID and password.

I do use Back To My Mac, and finally figured out that this was the problem. All I had to do was re-enter my iCloud password in the Airport Utility for both units then things were fine.

Yes! Success! When I went back to use my MBP to access the utility, the setting was selected and re-entering my Apple ID fixed it.

That setting IS NOT available on the iPad version anywhere that I could find (weird).

Hope that tidbit helps others too.

Thanks so much. Didn't realize that I had to go to Back to my Mac and update my Apple ID password. It's green now.
