Q: Error 3253 when downloading

I cannot download the latest episode of Mad Men.  Download is interrupted with message "err 3253 Network connection reset".  Downloaded an episode last week without problems.

Both OSX and iTunes are up to date.

MacBook Air (13-inch Mid 2011), OS X Mavericks (10.9.2)

I have traced this problem back several years. It comes and goes with various solutions that dont seem to work. Reseting DNS and removing simultaneous downloads can sometimes fix the problem for a while but I still have this issue after doing both.

This problem started with me with the introduction of iTunes 10. I have done everything I possibly could to solve this problem, but so far no luck.  I can't download; I can't stream. I have to sit with the mouse in hand and wait for each error, and then push the restart button.  Anytime I want to download a movie or a TV episode, I get maybe 10 such error messages. I've changed the DNS server, no joy: I've stopped simultaneous downloads: still get them; It isn't my ISP because I sat with them for an hour trying to find if the error is on their end, and it turns out that it isn't. There's only one possiblity left and that is iTunes. Apple please fix this befoe they put me in a place where you can only write with crayons.

Same problem here, too. Erro r 3253. On Verizon Fios. Have to slowly download ANYTHING I order. None of the DNS "fixes" solve the issue.

    What gives?

We started having the iTunes Error 3253 problem with video downloads recently (May 2014).

    • Our ISP is Comcast in San Jose, CA.
    • iTunes video downloads stop intermittently, requiring multiple refresh attempts to complete a download.
    • No problems with App or Music downloads -- maybe they're just smaller and less likely to fail.
    • No weird network setup. Using a recent AirPort Time Capsuel as our hard-wired network router. I'm out of ideas.

I am having the same issue for about two weeks or so now.  My ISP is Grande Communications.  Just tried to download an episode of "Fast 'n Loud" and got this error about 4 or 5 times. Had to restart to get it to download.  I;m using a Motorola Surfboard SB6141 modem and the lastest Apple Airport Extreme with Firmware version 7.7.3.  Any ideas?

I had this same issue and it ended up being a firewall on my router. Check out your firewall settings on 3rd party software you may have installed as well as your router firewall.

This is not a router problem. I have checked the router several times. A computer reset will temporarily fix the problem but that only lasts a few days.
