Extending a network after airport 7.7.3 update

I have a new 2014 Airport Extreme that i was extending with an older Extreme, A1354. It worked perfectly until I updated my new one to 7.7.3. Now the older one won't connect and gives an error every time I try.

I'm using airport utility 6.3.2 on a Mavericks system running 10.9.2.

I tried looking for 7.7.2 to downgrade but I can't find it anywhere. I've tried holding Option while clicking on the current version of software on Airport Utility but it doesn't let me go back to previous firmware.

any help would be appreciated!

Power down both the new AirPort Extreme and the older Extreme and wait a minute or two.

Then, power up the new Extreme first, and let it run 2-3 minutes

Power up the older Extreme next, and wait a full minute to see if it will connect correctly.

If the older Extreme will not connect, it will need to be reset back to factory default settings and then set up again.

Post back if you need help with that procedure and setup.

I don't have a good explanation or solution and would still like the ability to roll back to 7.7.2, but this is what I did the other day.

I had tried Bob's suggestion before his post, but that didn't work. You would think resetting back to factory would let it connect but it wouldn't reconnect to the new Extreme.

I unplugged the old extreme and left it unplugged overnight. The next day, i powered down the new extreme and let it boot fully. Then I plugged in the old extreme, held the reset button to wipe out any memory and put it right next to the new one.

I went through the setup process for the old one to get it to extend the new one. It connected correctly so I unplugged the power for the old and moved it to the original location and everything reconnected just fine.

So weird, but doesn't solve the problem of wanting to roll back 1 version on the new one.
