fcp not working, won't close manually or play/do anything?

Final Cut Pro has always worked absolutely fine for me till last night. I was in the middle of editing when it just froze and a minute after it frozen and starting loading, my battery died (I was at a friends house and didnt bring my charger) and I thought nothing of it and went to bed.

This morning i try to start editing again and for one, the project i had opened and was working on last night, was 'empty'. I had to create a new project THEN click on the project i wanted for everything to appear again in the timeline.

Now i've noticed that nothing will play, none of my videos have the 'thumbnail' kind of pictures its just blue.

Plus this loading sign: User uploaded file which usually has '100%' written in the middle, looks like this. The program keeps freezing and will not close manually. I have to force close it and it also stops me from restarting my laptop which means i have to force restart that too.

Anybody know what the problem is? I'm only a beginner so I really have no clue. This was the worst time for FCP to keep crashing on me, i have so much work delayed and I need to fix this fast.

Also my FCP is completely up to date and i havent installed any new updates or anything for it recently.

Thanks.

As always, deleting preferences using the free Preference Manager program is the first thing to try. Corrupt preferences can cause all sorts of trouble.

You may also want to delete the Layouts folder that sits in ~/Library/Application Support/Final Cut Pro.

(to access the Library folder in your home folder, which is usually hidden, hold down the option key while clicking on the Go menu in the Finder).
