I purchased an iPad Mini a year ago, so the warranty is gone.

Recently it has become frozen on the lock sceen where you type in your passcode. It says "searching" in the top left corner, and has the passcode screen open. I am unable to enter my passcode.

I have tried to "soft reset" many times (hold down lock button, and home button) and it resets, but still stays the same when the screen turns on.

I have tried to restore my iPad but on iTunes it tells me i have to unlock the iPad first, which i can not do.

Am i able to take it to the apple store and have it repaired? I can not find the receipt anywhere, though i do have the box and care instructions/stickers.

If you can turn iPad off, force it into Recovery Mode.

    1. Turn off iPad

    2. Turn on computer and launch iTunes (make sure you have the latest version of iTune)

    3. Plug USB cable into computer's USB port

    4. Hold Home button down and plug the other end of cable into docking port.

DO NOT RELEASE BUTTON until you see picture of iTunes and plug

    5. Release Home button.

    6. iTunes has detected iPad in recovery mode. You must restore this iPad before it can be used with iTunes.

    7. Select "Restore iPad"...

    1. Data will be lost if you do not have backup

    2. You must follow step 1 to step 4 VERY CLOSELY.
